Food & Dining at Holywell Manor

Balliol College provides excellent dining facilities for all graduates and undergraduates. Located a short 10 minute walk from Holywell at main site, Hall provides inexpensive hot food. Each day's menu is posted on the glass displays outside Hall, and in addition, a range of salads, hot and cold desserts, drinks, etc. are always available.

The dining hall is open from noon until 1:30pm for lunch and 6:30pm until 7:30pm for dinner. Meals are typically around £2.50 to £3.00 for two courses and drink. There are a variety of choices provided for each meal and every meal always includes a vegetarian option.

Balliol members paying with their University card receive a 10% discount. You can add money to your Bod Card at the Bursary in main college, or through Lihua Li, the Holywell Administrator. Hall is closed during the vacation periods, but Balliol graduates are permitted to take meals at neighbouring Linacre College during these periods.

There are also a number of well-equipped kitchenettes throughout the Holywell complex that are shared among graduates. These all feature fridge/freezers, hobs, ovens, microwaves, kettles and toasters. College does not provide plates and cookware for use in kitchenettes, but there are always lots of communal dishes available. As always, a variety of foodstuffs is for sale 24 hours a day in the Lodge Shop.

If you have any comments on the food or suggestions as to how it could be improved, you can mail the Domestic Rep; or write in the Food Comments Book which is kept in the Dining Room. There is also a Food Committee which serves as a channel for feedback about catering.
