Room Ballot
A ballot for accommodation is held in Hilary Term. The rules for the ballot are agreed between the Praefectus and the Middle Common Room (MCR) Committee, and can vary from year to year. Broadly, our aims are to:
(*) Accommodate, without choice of room, first year graduate Freshers
(*) Offer second year graduates a choice of rooms ("A-ballot")
(*) Place third year graduates on a waiting list for rooms and offer them the possibility of choice ("B-ballot")
The number of rooms available on the "B-ballot" varies from year to year, and most vacancies do not occur until the summer vacation (mid-August, September) when new graduates begin to withdraw. In addition, those who are no longer liable to pay University and College fees can place themselves on a "first come first served" waiting list. Graduates will be asked to make a case to the Praefectus for rooms that become available, and he will then make a decision based on the individual merits of the case. From time to time rooms become available in the Holywell Manor Complex. However, priority will be given to people who are not currently resident and who have yet to complete the University's residency requirements.
