Social life at Holywell Manor

Studies. Sports. Soporifics. There's a diverse range of interests among Balliol College MCR members. Some are here to focus on work, others are more interested in athletics while still others are into the college social life. Most of the MCR members find a balance between all three, but whatever a member's focus, Holywell helps ensure that their time in Oxford is both enjoyable and productive.

The Middle Common Room provides a centre for all activities at Holywell. Throughout the year it provides a place for members to come and work, use the computing facilities, read newspapers or simply come to hang out and socialise in a relaxed environment.

In addition to this, however, the Common Room is often transformed for a variety of social events that Holywell Manor often hosts. On occasions it becomes an enormous dance floor for a Bop, while on other occasions it becomes a lounge for brunch or cocktail parties or virtually anything else. Events like these, and of course everyday life, are enhanced dramatically by Holywell's own Megaron Bar and television room.

Last but not least, there is the Cockpit which is a relatively new multipurpose lounge. It has a pool table and a projector for "Sunday Movie Nights". Many MCR members are attracted to the Cockpit by the free coffee provided by our brand new MCR coffee machine in the Cockpit's kitchen.  Also, many dinner parties are organized in the Cockpit, thanks to the Cockpit's large communal kitchen.

Graduate students at Balliol have the option of eating lunch and dinner in the main dining hall located at College or finding another source of sustenance, including one of the many Oxford kebab facilities or self-catering in our own Manor kitchens.
